Well in Bangkok at least. It would rock if this was Hong Kong.
You would think this Asian city will be advanced in technology. We’re the first to have 3G iPhones in this area, yet we’re the last to get the 3G network—if it ever comes at all. There’s no such thing as free wifi here and online community is getting stalked constantly by social watchdogs we call Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Information and Communication Technology. We have the Cyber Crime Bill to govern netizens. A troll left an offensive comment on your blog without your knowledge? It will be your ass that gets the kick. Operating an internet cafe that’s being misused by deliquents? It’s your neck being chopped off. And yet anyone can get pirated softwares and movies without so much of a slap on the hand.
Welcome to Thailand where the good gets blamed and the bad advances in the game.
Byte Me will be an online ranting platform where every telecom mishaps, MICT stupidity, rare updates on local geekdom will be proudly presented to the world. Don’t count on it getting updated too often considering the state of technology we’re at at the moment. But good thing is, living in a technology-challenged city like Bangkok, there’s always something geeky to complain about.
